Kingdom of the Netherlands

The Kingdom of the Netherlands is the official name of the Sovereign state of the Netherlands.

It was founded at the time of the Congrès of Vienna of 1815 and then bore the name of “the United Kingdom of the Netherlands”. It then gathered the current territories of the Benelux as well as the colonies Dutchwomen, of which most important was the Eastern Indies Dutchwomen, current the Indonesia.

In 1830, the Belgium raised and obtained its independence.

Today, the Kingdom of the Netherlands gathers the twelve European provinces (the Netherlands themselves) and of the insular territories: the Dutch West Indies and Aruba. The Dutch West Indies started a process of dissolution which will end the December 15th 2008 and will lead to the creation of 2 autonomous territories: Curaçao and the southernmost part of the island of Saint Martin's day ( Sint-Maarten ), and 3 common Dutchwomen with particular status: Bonaire, Sheba and Saint-Eustace ( Sint-Eustatius or Statia ).
