Kiel

The city was founded at the 13th century. In second half of the XIXe century, Kiel becomes the large military port of the Prussia on the Baltique. The city and the port are at the bottom of a deep bay of 15 km locked by a throttling of 800 Mr. the funds of this bay allow moreover the evolution of ships of great tonnage. The majority of the great maritime services of the Prussian empire will be installed there: admiralty, staff of marine artillery, Academy of navy, direction of naval constructions. That involves a formidable demographic rise of the city.

It is a test headlight for the light sail, in particular the Olympic series, contrary to the Week of Cowes, more turned towards the livable sailing ships.
In addition, the water level of Kiel accommodated the tests of veil at the time of the Olympic Games disputed in Germany (OJ " hitlériens" from Berlin of 1936 and those of Munich of 1972). The marina Olympia Hafen and the lodgings built in 1972 were regarded as a model of the genre.
