Keren

Keren is the third plus big city of the Érythrée. It is located at the north of Asmara and counts 75  000 inhabitants. It is the capital of the Province of Anseba.

The city developed around the Eritrean Railroad towards Asmara, now dismantled (although that there are projects aiming at rebuilding it). The city is a important Shopping mall and was the theater of regular battles during the Second world war and the Guerre of independence of Érythrée. During the Second world war, a wild battle between the Italian and British troops took place there.

Among attractions of the city, one finds the Tigu (an Egyptian extremely of the 19th century), the vault St Maryam Dearit, located in a Baobab, the old railway station of the the Thirties, the cemeteries of the armed Italian and British and the Marché S buildings. In the vicinity, the Monastère Debra Sina of the 16th century is known for its dwellings troglodytes.
