Karma Lingpa

Karma Lingpa (Wylie: Kar my gling Pa) (~1350) is a Tertön, discoverer of hidden texts Tibetan, who lived at the 14th century.

Karma Lingpa, oldest son of Nyida Sangye, a Master of the Tantrisme, was born in south-east from the Tibet. He was recognized like a reincarnation of Chokro Luyi Gyaltsen, a large Master Tibetan.

He is famous to have discovered at 15 years the Bardo Thödol on the Gampodar Mount, among several others Terma S (hidden crowned texts). This work belongs to the school Nyingmapa, and is allotted to Padmasambhava, main Indian who introduced Buddhism in Tibet at the 8th century. Composed by Padmasambhava, the Bardo Thödol was written by his wife, Yeshe Tsogyal.

Lungten Dubgyur (2006) sees an influence of the Bardo Thödol of Karma Lingpa in the Bhutanese criminal Legal system. He affirms that this text is a legal and historical source of importance on which the majority of the modern Penal procedures of the Bhutan are based since the promulgation of the Civil code and the Bhutanese Penal procedure in 2001.
