Karl Ernst von Baer
The gram is a unit of Masse of the international Système (the basic unit is the Kilogram) and of the Système CGS. The abbreviation of the gram is G .
It is the 1793 which the gram was defined, it represented one cubic centimeter of Eau distilled with maximum density, that is to say 4 [[°C]]. The April 7th 1795 appears the Kilogram, multiple of the gram (1 kg = 1000 G). The law of the December 10th 1799 defines the kilogram by a cylinder in Platine “materializing” the mass of the cubic decimetre of water in 4 °C.
In 1889, with the first General conference of the weights and measures (CGPM) the standard kilogram (as well as the standard meter) are deposited with the Pavillon of Breteuil to Sevres, close to Paris, France. It consists of a Cylindre in iridic Platine height equal to the diameter (39 mm).
