Kangaroo
The kangaroo is a Marsupial of the family either of that of the Macropodidae or of that of the sthenurinés .
In a strict sense, the name kangaroo indicates one of the members of the four greater alive species: the russet-red Kangaroo, the giant Kangaroo, the gray Kangaroo and the Kangaroo antelope.
In the broad sense, one gathers there the 63 greater alive species of the family of the Macropodidae in addition to the preceding species, one adds to it the wallaroo S, the Wallaby S, the arboricolous kangaroos, the let us pademelons and the Quokka.
One exclusively finds them in Australia (on the continent and in Tasmanie), like in New Guinea for the arboricolous kangaroos.
The name of kangaroo derives from the name “ gangurru ”, meaning according to the legend, " I do not include myself/understand " in the language aboriginal Guugu yimidhirr whereas the naturalist Sir Joseph Banks of the His Majesty' S Bark Endeavor ordered by the captain James Cook, indicated a gray Kangourou with his interlocutor Autochtone, transcribed in “ kangooroo ” or “ kanguru ” in 1770.
Birth of the Kangaroo
With the birth the young people are very small, they do not measure more than 1 cm. To help it to go to the abdominal pocket, its mom makes him a way with her saliva. The small remainder in the pocket until it is able only to be nourished. The marsupium opens forwards.
Food of the kangaroo
The majority of the kangaroos are herbivorous, but very little of them are also insectivorous.
Appearance
The russet-red kangaroos are represented and the most known, the male can measure 1.8 m (the female 1.1 m) with a length of tail of 1 m; the male can weigh 85 kg (the female 35 kg). They live in band and the males raise a beautiful russet-red color. They are characterized by a big size of the rear limbs (from where the surname), who are very adapted to the jump and by an abdominal pocket (or Marsupium) which shelters small kangaroo. The tail is large and powerful, it is used as beam during the jumps and the animal rests on it (like a “seat”) at rest.As their population strongly increased since the arrival of the Européens, industrial hunting is well organized. The meat is thin and rather goûteuse.
Animal emblematic of Australia, the large kangaroo is more popular there downtown than in the campaigns. Indeed, extraordinarily adapted to the extreme living conditions of the Bush Australian, able to support in period of dryness of the temperatures of more than 40°C, this proliferous marsupial in all the country.
