Kang Kek Ieu

Kang Kek Ieu , alias Douch or Duch , is the former director of the center of torture Khmer Rouge S-21.

It directed under the dictatorship of Pol Pot (1975 - 1979) the prison Tuol Sleng, so known under the name of S-21, located in the downtown area of Phnom Penh. The building, which sheltered a college in the beginning, was used as center of torture. Sixteen thousand “opponents” with the mode (men, women and children) there were carried out for this period.

International justice

Uncovered by the Irish photographer NIC Dunlop whereas he lived peacefully in a Kampuchean village, “Douch” is held since 1999. He was accused the July 31st 2007 of Crimes against humanity and was écroué by the Tribunal of the Kampuchean genocide, a Kampuchean court sponsored by the the United Nations. It is about the first person in charge Khmer Rouge with being continued by this judicial body. Four top-ranking executives (whose Nuon Chea, Ieng Sary and Meas Muth) is aimed by this court.
