Kanembou

The kanembou is a spoken language with the Chad, mainly in the areas of the Kanem, the Lac and the Hadjer-Lamis.

Approximately 400.000 speakers in 1993.

Statute

The kanembou, like all the other national languages of Chad, does not profit from any official statute.

Article 9 of the Constitution known as: the official languages are French and Arabic. The law fixes the conditions of promotion and development of the national languages.
