Kaiser Wilhelm DER Gross
The S Kaiser Wilhelm der Große (in French: Empereur Guillaume Large the) is a Transatlantic liner German, built with Stettin.
Launched on May 4th 1897, it accomplishes its inaugural voyage in September, of Bremerhaven to New York. Little brother of the Kaiser Wilhelm I , it was notamnent the first German steamer has to take down the blue Ruban. He held this record until the Deutschland improves it in 1900. The fact that German steamers held this famous ribbon will lead to construction by English of giants like the Mauretania and the Lusitania.
Kaiser Wilhelm der Große was the first steamer equipped with an installation of wireless telegraphy in February 1900 and the first steamer with four chimneys. They will become a symbol of safety and prestige.
Starting from 1914, it was reconverted to transport the emigrants of Europe travelling in 3rd class bound for the the United States. In August it was requisitioned by the German navy and was equipped to become an auxiliary cruiser. Kaiser Wilhelm der Große was run by H.M.S. Highflyer , British Croiseur, on August 26th, 1914 at the beginning of the First World War.
