Falaise is a common French, located in the department of the Calvados and the area Basse-Normandie.
Its inhabitants is called the Falaisiens .
Geography
It is a city of the North-West of the France, in the south of the department of the Calvados.It is located on a rocky outcrop, between the valleys of the Ante and the Marescot.
History
Capital of the duchy of Normandy under the reign of Robert Splendid the, it is in this city that was born William the Conqueror, towards 1028, known as the bastard one at the beginning of its life, its mother, Arlette being a girl of tanner. The legend wants that the duke Robert sees it since his castle making the detergent in what will become a monument falaisien, the fountain of Arlette.The city is taken by Henri IV at the beginning of 1590.
French city decorated with the Legion of honor, Falaise was the seat of a sub-prefecture until in 1926.
The battle of the Cliff Pocket proceeded in August 1944.

- the Canton of Cliff-South is made of part of Cliff and communes of Damblainville, Eraines, Fresné-the-Mother, Hoguette, Pertheville-Ners, Versainville and Villy-lez-Cliff (9 609 inhabitants).
