Julia Soaemias

Julia Soaemias (v. 180 - March 11th 222) was a Roman empress of the dynasty of the Severe ones.

It was born with Émèse (Homs in Syria), girl of Julia Maesa and niece of Julia Domna, the wife of Septime Sévère. In 205 it is in Rome with her mother. It is undoubtedly there that it puts at the world her son Varius Avitus Bassianus, who will be known later like the emperor Héliogabale.

Before 217, it turns over with her mother to Émèse, where his/her very young son becomes large priest of the god Sol Invictus Elagabal. In 218 his/her Bassianus son is proclaimed emperor by the Legio III Gallica. At the conclusion of a civil war in Syria against the troops favorable to the emperor Macrin, the party of Julia Maesa and Julia Soaemias carry it and the family turns over to settle in Rome, where the young person Bassianus (Héliogabale) will reign until in 222.

In 222, she is assassinated with her son by the Praetorian ones.
