Jubilee

With the direction running, a jubilee is a Fête which celebrates, with regular intervals, the merry birthday of an event of which the effects are prolonged in time (reign, marriage, etc).

In the ancient Egypt, the jubilee, called festival '' Sed '' was celebrated starting from the 30e year of reign of a Pharaon. Then, these festivals, with the regenerating virtues, were celebrated with an interval of a few years according to the political situation of the country and the health condition of the Pharaon.

The word jubilee comes from the Latin jubilæus (of jubilare , “to be delighted”), translation by saint Jerome of the Hebrew yôbel which indicates a horn in horn of goat. In the Bible, this horn is used to announce the one year beginning special which takes place every fifty years. This year, the grounds were to be redistributed in an equitable way and the released slaves. The Lévitique (25: 8-11) declares as follows:

You will count seven weeks of years, seven times seven years, i.e. the seven weeks time of years, forty-nine years. The seventh month, the tenth day of the month you will make resound the call of the horn; the day of the Atonements you will sound horn in all the country. You will declare holy this fiftieth year and will proclaim the stamping from all the inhabitants of the country. It will be for you a jubilee: each one of you will return in his inheritance, each one of you will turn over in his clan.

In the Catholic church, a jubilee is, since the year 1300, one period of forgiveness, conversion and spiritual efforts taking place, initially every 100 years, then every 25 years, devoted to the remission by the Pénitence of the temporal sorrows due to the consequences of the sin and accompanied by the granting by special Indulgences associated with the visit by holy places, the practice of the fast, alms and the prayer, in particular the confession and the sacramental communion. One calls also these jubilees of the “holy years”. At the 20th century, in a similar spirit, the Pape S issued extraordinary holy years, commemorating the redemption by the death and the resurrection of Jesus-Christ. The last jubilee was celebrated in the year 2000 by the pope Jean-Paul II. The last extraordinary holy year was celebrated in 1983 by the same pope.

In a sporting context, in particular to the Football, a jubilee corresponds to a celebration to return honor to a player having rendered service a long time to a team. One can as example quote the jubilees of George Weah or Demetrio Albertini.

In the field of the Composition échiquéenne, the term of jubilee is used for a contest of composition organized at the time of the birthday of a Problémiste.

In Belgian right, a " precede jubilé" from 3 months of wages is paid with paid at the end of 25 years of seniority. A premium of 2 months jubilee is paid at 30 years of seniority and 1 month at 35 years of seniority. This premium of jubilee is equivalent to the Long-service medal in French right.
