Juan Shine Guerra

Juan Luis Guerra is a very popular song writer and performer on the Spanish-speaking music scene. Originating in the Dominican Republic, this Master of the Merengue explored all the musical styles of his native island.

Born the July 7th 1956, Guerra started to be interested in the music as of its more young age. Resulting from the middle-class, he inherited his father, a player of Baseball, his big size and his romantic air. Decided to live of its music, it makes off musical studies with the Berklee College Music with Boston, Massachusetts. It is thus in Boston, that it was initiated with the Jazz, Swing and also Be-Bop but it is a very other style which it develops in its youths, the Merengue, musical genre of Dominican Republic.

After the university, it founds its first groups 4.40 (in reference to the Fréquence of the note " la" , 440 Hz), which knew success of regard until exit into 1988 of Ojalá that llueva coffee (I hope that it rains coffee), their first great success. The music of 4.40 rests on modern arrangements mixing with the instruments of Rock and variety with the Merengue: “I said myself, one will work with our music which is in fact that one feels. ”

This album is followed by the very popular Bachata Rosa in 1990. Today, some albums later, 4.40 can be regarded as one of the greatest groups of variety of the the Caribbean. This success, Guerra owes it with a musical quality without defect which makes its discs an excellent mixture of commercial music and with its opening towards other musical styles (Rock, varieties, Soul, Funk). Juan Luis Guerra imposes the Merengue until in Europe where the sharp swaying walks and erotic S of its Danse are a great success.

For the Spanish-speaking S, it seems large a popular Poète. In general besides, those do not buy its albums for its music but also for the words, however from now on appreciated by many people. Juan Luis Guerra says a large reader of literature in Spanish like Julio Cortazar, Federico García Lorca, César Vallejo, Nicolás Guillén and Pablo Neruda.
