Juan Bautista Martínez del Mazo
Juan Bautista Martínez del Mazo (towards 1612 - 1667) is a Spanish painter of the era baroque. He became the son-in-law of Diego Vélasquez by marrying the girl of this last, Francisca, and could consequently integrate the court of the king Philippe IV of Spain under the protection of his powerful relative.
He succeeded in 1634 his father-in-law in the function of usher of the court. He touched for his paintings, as of 1640, an annual pension of 500 Ducat S, high with 700 ducats in 1648. He was in addition named factory inspector of the palate in 1647.
The style of its works is strongly inspired by that of Vélasquez, without nevertheless reaching same quality.
