Josepha Weber

Maria Josepha Weber , of her marital name Josepha Hofer , then Josepha Mayer , born with Zell in 1758 and died with Vienna the December 29th 1819, is an Austrian Soprano. She was the sister-in-law of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and she was the first to interpret the role of the Queen of the Night in the opera of Mozart the Magic Flute .

She was the girl of Fridolin Weber. As a Weber family member it was related with Aloysia Weber, her younger sister, who was first of all loved of Mozart and who sang in his later operas; with Constanze Mozart, his younger sister, who married Mozart in 1782; and with a first cousin, the type-setter Carl Maria von Weber.

On its song, the Grove' S Dictionary off Music and Musicians written, “According to contemporary testimonys, it had a true tessiture but had an approximation in its voice and missed presence in scene. ” This quality enabled him to approach the very difficult passages of colorature that Mozart wrote for the role of the Reine of the Night . She sang the role on scene during ten years, until 1801.

It Maria twice, in 1788 with the musician of the Franz court of Paula Hofer (1755-1796) and in 1797 with the singer Sebastian Mayer (1773-1835), who was the first to interpret the role of Pizarro in the opera Fidelio of Beethoven.
