Joseph Vuillemin (born the March 14th 1883 with Bordeaux - died the July 23rd 1963 with Lyon) was a French soldier, who took share with the two world wars. At the time of the first, it was a ace of French aviation. At the beginning of the second, he was the chief of staff of the French Air force.
Joseph Vuillemin enters the army in 1904 and becomes Sous-lieutenant in the Artillerie in 1910. In 1913, it obtains its pilot's license and begins the war from 1914 to the head of a flotilla.
In June 1915, it is named Capitaine and becomes major in February 1918. During the war, it gained seven approved air victories, and is of this fact considered as a ace of French aviation of the First World War.
After the war, it receives the command of the 11th regiment of aviation of bombardment in Rhenish country, then takes the head of aviation in Algérie in 1925. It becomes Colonel in 1928 and orders aeronautics with the Morocco in 1932.
In February 1933, it is named Brigadier general. It is this same year, in November and December, which it led the black Croisière air in French Western Africa and French equatorial Africa.
Between 1935 and 1936, it orders Ier air body and becomes in July 1937 member of the Superior council of the air, before being promoted Major general air in October of the same year.
Named chief of general staff of the Air force the February 18th 1938, the Vuillemin general becomes also vice-president of the Superior council of the air, and general inspector of the air defense of the territory. It moreover is promoted with the general rank of air. With the release of the war, he assumed the command as a chief of the French air forces until the armistice of June 1940.
The June 24th 1940, it is named general inspector of the air force, is responsible for the coordination of the air operations of defense.
In November 1940, it is placed on its demand for leave of flight crew.
Large cross of the Legion of honor, Joseph Vuillemin, holder of the Military decoration (allotted the July 17th 1940), also had the Military Cross of the Theaters of external operations
