Jonker Afrikaner
Jonker Afrikaner - /Hara-m ûb in Nama, Kakuoko in Otjiherero- (v. 1785 - 1861) was the chief of the tribe of the Oorlam S in the South-western African/Namibia.
Wire of Jager Afrikaner (1760 - 1823) " captain" from Orlam Afrikaners (/Aixa/aen), Jonker Afrikaner (/Hara-mûb) was born about 1785 in Roode Zand (Groot Vlakte) close to Tulbagh in the Colonie to the Cape in South Africa.
After having left the colony, Jager Afrikaner is established in Blydeverwacht (||Khauxa! nas) in 1823 in the north of the river Orange. His/her son undertakes to still continue towards north with 300 members of the tribe where they conquer a vast territory in Namaland and Damaraland (southern and South-western African centers). Towards 1836 - 1840, Orlaams de Jonker Afrikaner are established with Winterhoek. In 1836/37, it obtains the establishment of a mission of the Explorateur Britannique James Edward Alexander.
In 1840, a church being able to accommodate 500 to 600 people is built in Winterhoek. In 1842, the first two Rhenish missionaries Carl Hugo Hahn and Franz Heinrich Kleinschmidt arrive at Winterkoek.
It is at that time that Jonker Afrikaner undertakes to develop its territory while building or by aménangeant roads, in particular by connecting Winterhoek to Walvis Bay. After having beaten the other clans Hereros, namas or Damaras, he undertakes to form alliances or pacts of assistance with them (peace of Christmas in 1842).
In 1844, it leaves however its ally herero, the Kahitjene chief, being attacked by a rival tribe. This defeat is used it to take the control of the trade of the weapons and the horses. It is also in 1844 qu ' it requires of the missionaries of Wesleyan, Richard Haddy and Joseph Tindall, to come in Winterhoek to replace the Rhenish missionaries who, according to him, dealt too much with policy. In 1846, it shows even Hahn to be responsible for the release of the hostilities between namas and hereros whereas Hahn denounces the hypocrisy and the thirst for being able of Jonker.
In 1849, the hostilities are with most between Jonker and Hereros.
In 1850, Jonker Afrikaner works the first copper mine of African south-west on the site of the future Khomas Hochland. In August, it tackles the Rhenish mission of Okahandja.
In 1854, it takes the control of Okahandja and the territory herero.
In the years which follow, alliances vary month by month but the domination of Orlaams is constant. The various conflicts support the trade of Europeans however, particularly the salesmen of firearms even if, with the missionaries, they support the anti-Orlaams clans. The currency of Jonker Afrikaner is summarized besides in: " Africa with the Africans but with us Namaland and Hereroland ".
With the beginning of the year 1860, it is with the turn of the Ovamboland and the Kaokoveld to be the targets of the raids of Orlaams.
The August 18th 1861, Jonker Afrikaner dies in Okahandja.
Its successor was his son Christian Afrikaner (|Haragab).
