Jomo Kenyatta

Kamau Johnstone Kenyatta (born with Nairobi the October 20th 1893 and died with Mombasa the August 22nd 1978) known as Jomo, is a Kenyan politician of origin Kikuyu.

He was the general secretary of Kenya African National Union which militated for the independence of the Kenya. He wrote in 1938 one entitled book With the foot of the mount Kenya . He was imprisoned with his colleague Daniel Arap Me by the British who showed it to support the organization secretes Mau Mau. In prison Me promised in Kenyatta that if it became one day chair, Kenyatta would be its successor.

Both were released and Kenyatta was elected Prime Minister of independent Kenya the December 12th 1963, then president the December 12th 1964 until 1978 goes back to his death.

Kenyatta promulgated the national currency Haraambee (" ahead! " in Kiswahili) symbol of the victorious fight against the colonization and for the gathering of the various ethnos groups.
