John Hamilton Dalrymple , baron of the chess-board of the king in Scotland, attached to the royalist cause, born towards 1726, died in 1810.

It published Mémoires on Great Britain since the dissolution of the last Parliament of Charles II , 1771, translated by the abbot Jean-Louis Blavet, 1776. These memories establish that, under Charles II of England, several members of the Parliament, inter alia Algernon Sydney, were bribed by Louis XIV.
