Artistic course
It starts to sing in the cabarets and records initially one 45 turns " Desemplumat" (Désemplumé), followed of one 33 turns entitled " 0ccitania sempre" (Occitanie always), in 1973. Initially primarily Folk, on texts in Occitan, the music of Joan Pau Verdier will evolve to the Rock as of the end of the year 1973.
the libertarian musician
Joan Pau Verdier is guitarist. He plays all the second guitars on all his albums: rhythmic and/or arpeggios. The first guitars, guitars solo, are played by the musicians of which it is surrounded. It is this formula which it will adopt as of November 1973 by recording the album " Exil". 33t in which it will compose a song dedicated to its " aîné" Léo Shoed ((Maledetto, Léo.! )
Libertarian, J.P. Verdier dedicates a great admiration for Léo Ferré, in 1975 it translates into occitan the song " Neither God nor Maître" who becomes then Neither Diu nor Mestre in the album " Facts divers". For this album it is surrounded of the Orphéon group, compound, amongst other things of the guitarist Christian " Basile" Leroux (which will be, later, guitarist of Jacques Higelin, or Michel Jonasz enter others).
Verdier and Shoed will meet very often at the time of concerts, television programs or radio.
In the two years which will follow the album " Facts divers" , J.P. Verdier will work with various musicians of studio. It is in 1977, with the album concept resolutely rock'n'roll, " Taboo the chat" , that its group of musicians becomes homogeneous, with in particular Alain Markusfeld with the guitar, like Didier Alexandre (low) and Jean-François Leroi (battery).
However, after the round which follows the exit of this album, Alain Markusfeld leaves the group and will be replaced by Pierre Fanen (guitarist amongst other things, of the group ZOO, Eddy Mitchell, Jean-Jacques Milteau).
Pierre Fanen will remain at the side of Verdier until the 80.
beginning of the year In 1983 it is the rupture with his recording company of Philips.
origin
After a disc 4 titles on texts of the poets corrézien Maurice Croze in 1986, Verdier especially will work with Francis “Felix” Blanchard (ex Malicorne and Bernard Lavilliers) until 1993, on several albums.
In 1996, Verdier records an album devoted to Léo Ferré, which will never be distributed. In 2001, the album " Léo Domani" the remplacera.
After Ferré will be with the turn of Brassens to be interpreted by J.P. Verdier in an album entitled " Verdier Bonnefon Salinié sing Brassens"
Joan Pau Verdier, although revendicant itself of the culture occitane, was always opposed to the " occitanistes" and with the folklorists. Its music shows an obvious ecclectism: rock'n'roll, blues, jazz-rock'n'roll, tango, folk, Verdier gave all the musical colors to its songs, which they are in French or occitan.
Song occitane
Appear headlight of the rebirth of the song occitane in the Années 1970, it is the first of its generation to have signed in a major Parisian (what was reproached to him in its time by part of the occitanist medium). Always very active in the musical universe occitan, it also animates a radio program in occitan on France Blue Périgord in company of Martial Peyrouny like various chronicles devoted to the language occitane. Its last musical work was especially centered on the work of Léo Ferré (of which it translated several songs into language limousine). He wrote the original soundtrack of film in occitan Histoire of Adrien , of Jean-Pierre Denis.
