Joachim Piccolomini

Joachim Piccolomini known also under the name of Joachim of His, (1258 - 1305), tertiary sector of the Order of Servites of Marie.

Life

Joachim Piccolomini was born in a noble family from His. It was a very pious child, having large a devotion for the Virgin Mary; its greater pleasure was to recite the Ave Maria in front of an image of Notre-Dame of the Pains. As of its more young age, it had already a great concern of the poor to which it offered its clothing, and money little that it had.

One day that his/her father made him the reproach of it, saying to him that while thus acting, he to allair to ruin the family, the child answered him: “ me taught You that any alms made with poor is a made offering with Jesus. Can we refuse something to him? And which would be the advantage of being rich if were not to create a treasure with the Paradise? ”. His/her father cried about it of joy. Joachim joined the Servites of Marie at the 14 years age, as a lay brother , becoming a pupil of Philippe Benizi. It was a perfect piety and paragon of virtue, requesting up to one hour advanced of the night whereas all the others slept, fasting in honor of the Seven pains of the Virgin. It was humble of heart: his/her brothers pushed it to continue studies for the priesthood, but he wanted anything else to only be one servant. All its life it sought to hide glance of the others, with living in the darkness and modesty.

It however was respected and known for its holiness. Thus having been transferred to Arezzo, there were as well complaints with His with the idea to see it leaving, as one immediately ordered to him to return.

Died and miracles

The legend tells that the Virgin Mary appeared to him since its childhood, that it is it which wished to see him integrating the Servites.

It would have as appeared a day with two crowns in the hands, one of ruby to thank it for its compassion, the other of pearls to reward it for its virginity, as it had dedicated to him.

Little time before its death, the Virgin appeared last once to him. Joachim asked to him whether it would agree to make it die at the date where Jesus had died itself. The Virgin answered him: “ It is well, prepares, tomorrow, Good Friday, I will reach your desires. Tomorrow, you will be with me with the Paradise ”.

And thus during the Office of Passion, at the time of the reading of the verse of holy Jean (19-30) and, lowering the head, it returned the spirit, Joachim died. At once, the church was filled of an extraordinary light and a perfume suave.
