Joachim Heinrich Camps

Joachim Heinrich Camps (* June 29th 1746 with Deensen, Holzminden; † October 22nd 1818 with Braunschweig) the German Berquin.

It was some time chaplain of a regiment, but, not being able to support the spectacle of the horrors of the war, it left this career and was dedicated to education. It directed to Dessau celebrates it philanthropinum , then exerted with Hamburg; became then canon and adviser of the schools with Brunswick, and withdrew in 1805 to deal only with literary work. It founded in Brunswick a bookstore of education which had much success, and thus obtained a great ease.

He wrote for childhood and youth a crowd of small works.

The principal ones are:

  • Robinson Crusoè in dialogs , which had more than 40 editions;
  • the Discovery of America ;
  • the Small-Library of the children ;
  • Théophron or the Guide of young people; one joined together them in only one collection forming 37 small vol., 1829 - 1832.

The majority were translated into French.
