Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck

Its Majesty King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck (born the February 21st 1980) is the King Dragon Bhutan and the fifth monarch of the Wangchuck dynasty.

Its title is Mang-pos Bhur-ba' I rgyalpo, Druk Gyalpo (Its Majesty the King of Bhutan).

Family

The King is the oldest son of the former king Jigme Singye Wangchuck, who abdicated in favor of his son, and his third wife, His Royal Highness the Princess Ashi Tshering Yangdon (born the December 29th 1957).

He has a sister and a brother like 4 half-sisters and 3 half-brothers resulting from the three other wives of his father (the four wives of its father are sisters). The king is not married.

Formation

After having received a basic training with the Bhutan, the future king left to study with the the United States, then with Oxford where it obtains a diploma in International relations and Policies.

He travelled abroad, representing officially the Bhutan on several occasions and holds an active role in many cultural, economic organizations and of formation.

Accession with the throne of Bhutan

In December 2005, its Majesty King Jigme Singye Wangchuck announces its intention to abdicate in favor of his/her son in 2008 and to start to transfer to him immediately from the responsibilities. The December 15th 2006 it announces its immediate abdication and the passage of the throne with Jigme Khesar Wangchuk.

Popularity abroad

As a Crown prince to Bhutan, it attended the 60 years celebrations of reign of King Bhumibol Adulyadej of Thailand June 12th and 13rd 2006 among the royal families of 25 countries. Like press thaïe like Prince Jigme, then old of 26 years and youngest of the royal visitors, created sensation draining of many admirors. The press thaïe had called it the “Prince charming” and daily published photographs and reports about it and on tourism with the Bhutan several weeks still after its departure.

A survey realized by institute ABAC of Assumption University of Thailand presented Sigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck like most popular of the royal visitors. Nevertheless, some estimated that this survey exploited the solemnity of an event implying the sovereign inhabitant of Thailand. A few hours after its publication, the director of the center ABAC, Nophadol Kanika, withdrew the results of the survey.

Internet site inhabitant of Thailand Pantip.com was drowned under the comments of the visitors in connection with the crown prince. Among the messages, there was a photograph of him with an unknown woman. Daily newspapers of language thaïe published then the photograph. The Department of the Special Investigations of Thailand launched an investigation to determine the origins of the photograph, whose publication is regarded as a violation of the private life and threatened to continue whoever would publish it again.
