Jeanne Moreau

Jeanne Moreau is a Actrice and French Chanteuse , born the January 23rd 1928 with Paris (France). It is member of the Academy of the Art schools since 2000 (Armchair created in 1998).

Biography

Birth in 1928. His/her mother of English origin was dancer and her hotel father. After having passed part of its childhood with Vichy, it completes its secondary studies in Paris and starts to follow, without the knowledge of her parents, the courses of theater of Denis of Ines, then senior of the French Comédie. It enters six months later to the Conservatoire of Paris.

In 1949, she marries the realizer Jean-Louis Richard with whom she has a son, Jerome. In 1951, the couple divorces.

In 1977, after its remarriage with the American realizer William Friedkin (the relation will last only two years), it leaves food to New York and discovers the book Solstice of Joyce Carol Oates, a history of friendship between two women. Jeanne Moreau wants to make its third film of it, after Lumière and the Teenager . She writes the scenario with the author of the book, but the Studios Walt Disney which are contacted as possible producers, refuse finally, considering that it is about a disguised history lesbians, fact, in the scenario, of the ambiguous relation between the two women.

She is promoted with the rank of commander in the National order of the Merit at the beginning of January 2007.

Its career

In October 1946, it enters between like listener to the French Comédie, then at the beginning of 1947, it passes the entrance examination to the Academy. She plays a small role in the Sunrise . In September 1947, it takes part in the first Festival of Avignon, with small roles in three parts and in December 1947 it obtains the role of Joas in Athalie .

Initially with the Comédie-Française, it begins really fine 1950 in the part the Cellars from the Vatican of André Gide, put in scene by Jean Meyer, in the role of the small prostitute. This role is worth to him the cover of Paris Match and the congratulations of Paul Léautaud. She obtains then another role of prostitute in a resumption of Othello , with Aimé Clariond in the role titrates. It is on this occasion that Orson Welles, which prepares the film adaptation of the part, discovers it.

Resigning of the Comédie-Française, it joined the NPT of Jean Vilar, occurs with the Festival of Avignon, but it there is badly at ease and accepts, on the council of Gerard Philippe, the proposal of the Théâtre Antoine to play in the part the dazzling Hour Anna Bonacci (put in scene of Fernand Ledoux), a role, once again, of prostitute. In 1958, at the time of the Cannes festival, it meets François Truffaut which prepares the film Jules and Jim and Henri-Pierre Roché, the author, who dies shortly after. Following the success of film, it meets Anaïs Nin which wants Jeanne Moreau to incarnate her heroin. The film is not done but a solid friendship was born.

It leaves in California to play in a series of films and, at the time of one evening, Anaïs Nin presents Henry Miller to him which says to him one day: “Especially, known as never to people with whom you work that we are friendly, your reputation would be rotten”. It binds also friendship with Tennessee Williams and Peter Brook.

Whereas she plays in the part the Ride on the lake of Constancy, she meets Patricia Highsmith, which lived close to Fontainebleau, and with which, she binds friendship.

In 1989, with the cost with the festival of Avignon with the title role of " Célestine" of Fernando de Rojas.

Since 2003, Jeanne Moreau takes an active part, as president then like faithful godmother, with the International festival of the young realizers " foregrounds " of Angers.

In 2005, the festival " First plans" , Jeanne Moreau created a school of cinema, " Workshops of Angers" who is an helping hand with the changing. Each year since 2005, this formation accommodates a score of young European realizers in search of improvement in cinematographic techniques, in order to pass from the short film to the feature-length film.

In 2003, Jeanne Moreau was the president of the international festival " First plans" from Angers. She remained the faithful godmother about it.
