Jean Side

Jean Side (born in 1927), Journalist, writer and Biographer Québécois. The name of Jean Côté remains attached to the mediums of the Extrême Québécois right-hand side. He attended the movements Indépendantiste S extremists of the Sixties; he was also a sympathizer of the Fascisme near to Adrien Arcand and Parti the national unit Canada (in the past national Parti social Christian, founded by Arcand in the Thirties).

Very prolific author, Jean Côté wrote works of Fiction (Romance S, detective novels), collections of Poème S and biographies. Several of its publications relating in particular to bronzing, sexuality, the seduction, the voyage (tourist guides) concern the Littérature " alimentaire". The majority of its books were published in popular collections (in particular with the editions Québécor) or on account of author.

Man of right, Côté launches in 1970 a weekly magazine Indépendantiste entitled Point of test card whose editor association was Pierre Bourgault. But this last wearies attitude on Side quickly and resigns shortly after. During years 80-90, Côté was made known for its many biographies " hagiographiques" discussed characters of the Québécois History of the Thirties until the Quiet revolution like Adrien Arcand, Marcel Chaput, Paul Bouchard, Jean-Marc Brunet, Tony the Jumper and, recently, Gilles Rhéaume. Through these works, Côté appears not very objective, its research misses rigor and its sources are seldom mentioned; many digressions testify to its sympathy to the Nationalisme of Extrême right-hand side and the Fascisme.

Jean-François Nadeau recently wrote in the Duty that the biographies of Jean Côté were of poor quality, full with inaccuracies, errors and arbitrary judgments. In connection with its Adrien Arcand, a great figure of our time (ED. Side-Am, 1994), Nadeau speak about a " truffée hagiography of erreurs" and recalls that " the book professed so much judgments abracadabrants which it was withdrawn from the racks of certain bookstores in front of the outcry that it souleva".

One also owes in Côté a biography of Pierre Péladeau, of Patrick Norman, Jacques Gagnon and Jean of the Trinity.
