Jean Hamburger

Jean Hamburger , born the July 15th 1909 and dead the 1992 with Paris, is a Médecin, Chirurgie N and essay writer French.

Biography

After secondary studies with the college Carnot, it makes academic works with the Faculty of Science and the Medical college of Paris. He is the pupil of the professor Louis Pasteur Vallery-Radot. He is internal (1931), senior registrar (1936), doctor of the hospitals (1945), qualified schoolteacher (1946), head doctor with the Hôpital Necker (1949-1982), professor of nephrologic private clinic at the Medical college of Paris (Hôpital Necker), of 1958 to 1982, director of the group of research in nephrology of the Association Claude Bernard and the National institute of hygiene (1951-1964), then of the research unit Inserm U25 (on the kidney and the immunology of the Clerc's Offices) in 1964-1982, president of the special scientific Commission 5 of the Inserm (metabolism inorganic, renal and ostéo-articular physiology and pathology) in 1964-1967 and 1968-1974, president of the international Company of nephrology in 1960-1963, then of the international Company of transplantation in 1968-1970.

It decides, with Louis Michon, Oeconomos and Vaysse, the first renal Transplantation in France, in 1952, on the young person Marius Renard, operation which has an exceptional repercussion at the time. It defines the methods and the rules of this type of transplantation with the assistance of Rene Kuss.

He is the creator of the concept of medical Réanimation in 1953 and of the discipline which he proposed to name Néphrologie, i.e. the study of the normal kidney and the diseases of the kidney. He carries out the first Kidney machine French in 1955. Him the first successful grafts of kidney are owed: the first success prolonged in 1953, the first successes final between fraternal twins in 1959, and not-twins in 1962. He is the author of basic research on the immunology of the renal diseases, the Immunologie of the Clerc's Offices and the autoimmune diseases.

Member of the resistance network of the Museum of the man, founder and vice-president of the Foundation for the medical research, member of the Councils about the Legion of honor and Arts and letters, president of the Council of administraion and the Scientific advice of the Palate of discovered the, he becomes member in 1974 of the Academy of Science and, 1975, the national Académie of medicine as well as several foreign academies, of which the Royal College off physicians. He is made honorary doctor of the universities of Athens, Buenos Aires, Edinburgh, Geneva and Lund.

Jean Hamburger married in first weddings with the pianist Annette Haas. From this union were born three children, of which the singer-author-type-setter Michel Berger, husband of the singer France Gall. He married in second weddings with Catherine Descamps. He is buried with the Cimetière of Montmartre.
