Jean Frélaut
Jean Frélaut , born with Grenoble the 17 July 1879 and died in 1954, is a painter, engraver and illustrator French.
Biography
Its family settles in Brittany, close to Vannes, in which it is originating. In 1897, it enters the workshop of Fernand Cormon to the École of the fine arts of Paris. He learns the technique from the engraving of Marcel Beltrand and Donald Shaw Mac Lauglan.It Marie with Elizabeth Pinasseau (1912). Mobilized, it is made chevalier of the Legion of Honor in 1919. It takes part in the group of the Painters independent engravers, founded by Jean Emile Laboureur and Raoul Dufy starting from 1923.
It receives the price of French engraving to the Biennale de Venise (1934). It turns over food in Morbihan. In 1937, it is named preserving museum of Valves. It decorates with Jean Emile Laboureur and Pierre Dubreuil the National school with the Merchant navy.
The engraver
Jean Bersier thus describes it in 1948: “As of the day or Mac Langhlan initiated it with the trade of aquafortist, it applied, with a tough and considered will, to engrave in copper the intense love which it tested for the nature and the ground of his ancestral territory. Morbihan, hard and tended, lends itself magnificiently to descriptions of Frélaut. ”
