Jean Cézard
Jean Cézard , draftsman and scenario writer of Cartoon born on March 23rd 1924 with Membrey (Haute-Saône) and dead the April 8th 1977.
Prolific author of the period of after war, it as well exerted his talents in the realistic kind as in the comic kind but remains especially known for some of his characters whose its precise, detailed feature and all in roundness, underlined the humorous character perfectly ( Kiwi, Arthur the retributive phantom, Rigolus and Tristus, Surplouf the small corsair ). Jean Cézard was also a marvellous colourist whose art perfectly control and moderate was without similar. He is curiously less famous than draftsmen such as Greg, Tabary or Uderzo with which its drawing is however connected much (and competes without difficulty). This gives rise to think that it will have perhaps missed the scenario writer of talent which would have known to emphasize it.
Career
Jean Cézard began his career in 1946 in Francs-Jeux , where after some work of illustration, it carries out the comic series Mr Toudou as from the year 1948. He creates then the adventures of Pilul which appear in several publications of the editions SAETL ( Sélection breaks neck, the Corsair and Texas Bill ), then, the mirobolantes adventures of the Professor Pipe for the weekly magazine My Newspaper , series which he will take again in Small size in 1959 in Dakota . Of 1949 with 1954, it conceives for Aventures and Voyages some cartoons realistic: Brik , then Yak , which is published in “Complete Accounts” under the same name. Starting from 1951, it works for the weekly magazine Vaillant for which it carries out several series: Companions of the black section, the Search of Aruda, the Knight of Lagardere, Ground of hero.
In 1953, it begins in Vaillant and continuous in 1969 in Pif gadget the character who will undoubtedly be his more great success, Arthur the retributive phantom , which it will draw until his death in 1977. In 1969 this small character, who travels as well in time as in space, unloads on a red planet and green populated the curious extraterrestrial ones. They are Rigolus and Tristus which are such a success that they will be the subject of their own series until in 1969. The idea did not miss originality since these two people, always fights about it, recruited their adversaries in their camp by making them laugh or cry. This series finishes in 1973, date on which begins that of Surplouf the small corsair .
In same time, Jean Cézard continues his collaboration with Aventures and Voyages for which it draws Jim Minimum and Billy Bonbon (three French albums and a new with the Netherlands). He also creates for the editions Lug the character of Kiwi , a calamitous bird which its mishaps always propelled in prison or to the hospital in the last label of its stories. He was published of 1955 with 1968 in a “small size” bearing his name.
