Jean Albany is a Poète and painter réunionnais born with Saint-Denis the December 4th 1917 and died with Paris in 1984. Inventor of the word “ créolie ”, he is the author of famous the Zamal , a collection of 41 poems writes in French published in 1951.
Biography
In 1937, Jean Albany leaves the Point of the Brushes with Saint-Gilles and travels until Paris to continue there its studies in Droit and Dental surgery. The Second world war bursts and finally leads it to be useful in the Artillerie as raises officer at the school of Fontainebleau. It is from there that he writes his first poems which will be published in 1985 on a purely posthumous basis in Amour insane bird .
Demobilized, Jean Albany turns over with the Meeting. He accomplishes the voyage between Marseilles and the Port of the Point of the Rollers on the Town of Amiens of November 1945 at January 1946. He reports this voyage later a few months in another work which will be published only in posthumous title, the Cross of the South . One can read through the lines which it is bored on the native island.
Also, Jean Albany turns over in metropolis. He obtains his license of right and a political doctorate of economy. He then spends two years to the Institut of political studies of Paris while continuing his studies of dentistry. With the Latin Quarter of Paris, there attends many poets and academies of painting but remains readily marginal.
Published in 1951, Zamal is the first collection which it publishes. Its title is the name given to the Indien hemp in the island.
Jean Albany receives in 1965 the Grand Prix of Mascareignes. He buys thanks to him a Magnétophone with cassettes. He starts it the night by reflex and vagit of the Poème S like a sleepwalker. Bleu mascarin appears in 1969. It is its first collection which privileges in fact the creole like poetic language of expression.
53 years old in 1970, the dental surgeon amateur of painting and horse-races is seen dying. Shocked by this vision, it with the idea to write for its new language fetish a Small Glossary and is put to work there in its small apartment of Saint-Germain-of-Meadows. It recreates starting from its memory and of its readings its insular Enfance. The work appears in 1974. It will supplement it in 1983, always installed at the same place.
Died in the capital in 1984, it is buried with the Meeting, precisely with the Saltwork-the-Tops, a locality close to Saint-Gilles.
