Jean-Pierre Cot is a Politician, born with Geneva (Swiss), on October 23rd 1937.
Biography
He is the son of Pierre Cot, also politician and minister.Holder of a license and a Doctorate of public law, it is also incorporated, major of his promotion.
Public law professor and of international law to the University of Amiens, then of of Paris I, it is established in Savoy in the old district of his father. Elected official Appointed of Savoy in March 1973 against the minister gaullist Pierre Dumas, he had become mayor of Coise-Saint-Jean-Foot-Gauthier in 1971 and becomes General adviser canton of Chamoux-sur-Gelon in September 1973, thus taking again the old local mandates of his father.
Re-elected appointed until in 1981, it enters to the government as Delegated minister in charge for the Co-operation and the Development. Paul Perrier succeeds to him the Parliament. In dissension with the African policy of France, he resigns about it in 1982; opposed to a vision of subsidizing of the African countries by France, it is in favor of codéveloppement. Christian Nucci replaces it with the Government.
European Deputy of 1978 to 1979, it is again elected with this function in 1984 and is re-elected in 1989 and 1994. It chairs the socialist group of the European Parliament of 1989 to 1994 and is elected vice-president of the institution in 1997. Jean-Pierre Cot follows the lawyer occupation, and is currently judge at the International court of the Right of the sea.
