Jean-Olivier Hucleux

Jean-Olivier Hucleux was born in 1923.

It carries out its first tests of Peinture between 1940 and 1945: the marine is his first painting according to photograph. He ceases painting in 1945 and exerts various trades.

In 1968, it goes back to paint. Installed with Andrésy, it carries out its first attempts at painting. Like one paints according to nature, it paints according to photographs: Portrait of the woman of the artist , Entered of village , Scrapyard .

In 1971, it undertakes the series of the Cimetières which will carry out it, in a strictly conceptual step, with the Documenta V, in 1972, with Cassel, where it shows for the first time its paintings.

Until 1974, it continues the series of the Cimetières , which it exposes to the Denmark, in Germany and Finland in Helsinki. It enters the collections of Peter Ludwig (Germany), of Sarah Hilden (Finland), of Mr. Lewis (the United States), of Jean Pigozzi and of the National center of art and culture Georges-Pompidou (France).

Consequently it is devoted to the portraits: Jean-Pierre Raynaud, Self-portrait , Etienne Martin, Jean Gac.

In 1975, " European Painting in the 70 ' S " in Los Angeles County Museum (the USA) in company of Francis Bacon and Jean Dubuffet. He undertakes, on order, the portrait of the Professor Peter Ludwig and his wife , followed shortly after Jumelles .

In 1979, Pontus Hulten organizes a retrospective of its works in the Center Georges Pompidou, within the framework of the certified exposure Copy .

It follows from there a certain number of public orders among which the painted portrait of Presidents Georges Pompidou and François Mitterrand, as well as the ordering of a bronze in homage to Louis Aragon.

Meanwhile, it carries out the painted portraits of Paul Bocuse and of Pontus Hulten . In 1985-86, it directs its research towards the drawing with the Black lead: it carries out its self-portrait first of all and prepares for FIAC of 1987, with the gallery Beaubourg, a series of eleven drawn portraits. It continues the series of the portraits drawings for exposures programmed in 1991.

It in parallel carries out drawings known as of “deprogramming” presented to the Gallery Montaigne (Paris), the Musée of contemporary art of Lyon Biennale of Lyon and to the FIAC (International exhibition of contemporary art) of 1991. A sculpture carried out during this period is, it also, presented Galerie Montaigne and to Biennial of Lyon.

In 1992, it takes part in the exposure Manifeste to the Center Georges Pompidou, where it presents the portrait of Piet Mondrian, since then entered the collections of the museum.

In 1993, after various exposures to Lyon, Montreal, Figeac, it takes part in the exposure of reopening of the National Portrait Gallery to London, The portrait now , traditional exposition with the portrait in the international contemporary art. Hucleux represents France there. Various exposures follow: Gallery Claudine Papillon, Paris (1993-94), Gallery Beaubourg - Vence (1994) with the painted portrait of Jeanne Hucleux, Center Georges Pompidou with the portrait of Erik Dietman during the exposure of this last.

At the same time, it continues its research on the deprogramming, which it exposes to the Gallery Barber, at the same time as its Double Self-portrait . It is present in this gallery at the FIAC of 1995.

In February 1996, for the inauguration of the European House of the Photo, a portrait was ordered to him by J.L. Monterosso in 1993. This portrait drawn with the black lead of 1m80 on 1m50 represents the portrait of Robert Frank carried out according to a photograph of Marc Trivier.

It exposes to the Palate of the Bénédictine to the works drawn and painted as well as drawings of deprogramming jointly with the presence of seven sculptures of César

At the end of 96, at the beginning of 97, it takes part in the exposure Double life - Double Sight to the Fondation Cartier in Paris. Only one painted work, the Binoculars , is present in this exposure which has as a subject the gemellity.

In 1997 it takes part in Biennial of Lyon whose topic is different the , with the Binoculars .

It is in March 1998 with the MAAC with Fresnes, with the exposure Livres, Cahiers of Artists, Estampes, Multiples .

A retrospective of its work was devoted to him to the Museum of Contemporary art of Lyon from October 21st, 1999 to January 15th, 2000. Part of this exposure will be taken again by the Daniel Templon in 2000.

From November 2000 in January 2001, the Gallery of the College Marcel Duchamp, within the framework of the exposure the gold Section to Chateauroux.

Ten Public gardens are the subject of an exposure in the hall of the Palais of the Congresses of Paris from April in June 2001.

In June 2001, part of its work, whose the Public gardens mainly, drawings of deprogramming, portraits drawn and the portrait of Jeanne Hucleux (painting), are presented until September 2001 to the Castle of the Large Garden with Joinville (Haute-Marne).

In 2001-2002, it exposes to the museum of Contemporary art of Aachen in Germany, five Cimetières within the framework of the expositon Streit Lust programmed by Wolfgang Becker.

It takes part in 2002 in an exposure to the Museum of Contemporary art of Bordeaux then, in 2003, with the Museums of Contemporary art of Strasbourg.

Parallel to its existing work, it moves towards a completely new search for drawings whose support is the computer, with the collaboration of his Jean-Louis son.
