Jean-Martin Folz
Jean-Martin Folz was the chairman of PSA Peugeot Citroen. This head of French undertaking, born the January 11th 1947 with Strasbourg, is the son of the large medievist Robert Folz (1910 - 1996), specialist in the Carolingian world and the relations between the Church and the laic capacity. He is graduate Polytechnic school (X1966 promotion, Corps of the Mines). He announced the September 8th 2006 his departure with the retirement.
As considered jovial fellow into private, as austere even neglected in public, far from the society life, it hardly reveals its private life, acknowledging only some passions: wine, deep-sea diving and Baroque music.
Professional path
- 1972 : Regional management of the ministry for industry
- 1975: member of the ministerial cabinets, he becomes principal private secretary of the Secretary of State to industry, Jean Tiberi then Claude Coulais
- 1978: Enter to Rhône-Poulenc as plant manager, then executive vice president of the chemical specialities
- 1984: Then managing director of Jeumont-Schneider is executive vice president, subsidiary of the group Schneider
- 1987: Managing director of Pechiney then president of Carbon Lorraine
- 1991: Managing director of Eridania Béghin-Say and chair Béghin-Say
- 1995: Entry in the group PSA Peugeot Citroen.

At PSA Peugeot Citroen
Entered the group in 1995, he becomes director of automobile division in April 1996, then delegated general director of Peugeot Cars and finally chairman on October 1st 1997, adoubé by Jacques Calvet. He quickly fixes strategic directions, which were crowned success and of which he deviated only little:- the maintenance of the independence of the group,
- internal industrial synergies between Peugeot and Citroen
- a policy of industrial co-operation,
- a group for the pooling, two concurrent and equal marks,
- an industrial relations policy and environmental in rupture with the Calvet era.
It will be named " to manage année" by the review the New Economist in 2003. In 2003, it chaired ACEA (Association of the European manufacturers of cars). In a few years, it will have made pass the sales of the group from the 2 to 3,4 million units, accelerating the growth of the group except Western Europe (South America, Central Europe, China…).
The last years, the situation of the group will be degraded gradually. At the beginning of 2006, it announces the closing of the English site of Ryton. Profitable, don't the industrial co-operations have for reverse the loss of competences? Shortly after the fall of 60% of the benefit in the first half of 2006, it announces its departure with the retirement in January 2007. It is replaced the February 6th 2007 by Christian Streiff.
Others
He is member of the Council of orientation of the Institut of the company and administrator of Saint-Gobain.After its retirement of PSA, Folz was appointed administrator independent of the General society to succeed Marc Viénot, integrated the board of trustees of Carrefour, and will be proposed the June 26th 2007 with the board of directors of Alstom.
In June 2007, it succeeds Bertrand Collomb (Lafarge) like chair AFEP.
In 2007, it also be member, with Bertrand Collomb, of a mission " diagnosis-vérité" ministry for defense on its military capacities and its costs. It is also named in August 2007 with the commission Mallet which must write one White paper on defense and the national security, bringing up to date that of 1994.
