Jean-Jacques Goldman

Jean-Jacques Goldman is a song writer and performer French.

He was born the October 11th 1951 with Paris, in the 19 {{E}} district, third of a family of Jewish origin of four children. His/her mother, Ruth Ambrunn, born with Munich (Germany), and her father, Alter Mojze Goldman, born with Lublin (Poland), were hero of the Résistance. He has as an younger brother the Auteur-compositeur Robert Goldman and a sister, Evelyne, who is doctor. He is also the half-brother of Pierre Goldman, militant of extreme left, which was assassinated in 1979 after having made several steerings. Graduate in 1969, it continues its studies and integrates the Edhec into Lille, which it leaves in 1973. With his Robert brother, it founded the production company JRG.

He initially sang in the group Red Mountain Gospellers in Chorale then with The Phalanster and finally with Taï Phong ( Vietnamese High wind in ) before beginning his career solo, which he put between brackets a few years to found a trio, named Fredericks Goldman Jones, with Welsh Michael Jones and American the Carole Fredericks.

Pseudonyms of Goldman

He wrote the majority of his songs by using his own name (for Céline Dion, Patricia Kaas, Johnny Hallyday, Garou, Khaled, Pink Laurens, Lorie, Marc Lavoine, Florent Pagny), but sometimes, until 1994, made use of Pseudonyme S, so that the Média S judge its titles in a more objective way. This pseudonym is the phonetic transcription of Homme out of gold (gold om), translation of German Goldman . Besides Marc Lavoine used for the occasion the pseudonym Mr. Oats, oats meaning oats in English.

Private life

It Marie in 1975 with Catherine, psychologist, with whom he has 3 children: Caroline, born in 1976, Michael, born in 1980, and Nina, born in 1985. They divorce in 1997.
Il remarie on October 13rd, 2001 with Nathalie Lagier, incorporated and doctor in mathematics (Thesis " Constant term of functions on a réductif symmetrical space p-adique" supported on June 13rd, 2007). Three girls will be born from this union: Maya, on November 9th, 2004, Kimi, on December 26th, 2005, and Rose, at the end of July 2007.

Red Mountain Gospellers and The Phalanster

They are the first two groups of Goldman.

Red Mountain Gospellers

Jean-Jacques Goldman played of the keyboard since the age of six/eight years. He meets a person in second, he played of the blues to the guitar and belonged to a group of gospel in a church where there was an electric organ, which was an extremely rare food product at that time there. They needed a keyboard.

In 1966, creation of the group “Red Mountain Gospellers” made up buddies of college who occur in the church St Joseph of Montrouge.

Jean-Jacques Goldman is 14 years old.

With the general request, as this group had much success and filled the tank in the church, the priest (the Dufourmantelle father) proposed to record a small disc under the name of Red Mountain Gospellers. Gospellers de Montrouge. Red Mountain is the English translation of Montrouge.

Within the group, it is Organiste. This group enables him to take its first steps in a studio of recording since it will record a first 45 turns of gospel on which it plays of the harmonica, the guitar and the organ.

The formation is made up of 9 musicians: guitarist-singer, harmonicist, bass player, beater, 3 chorus-singers…

The Phalanster

After the experiment of the group Red Mountain Gospellers (1966) comes that from The Phalanster. Jean-Jacques Goldman discovers what will be his great musical revelation, Aretha Franklin and his famous drunk tube “think”. In 1968, it gives up its studies of classical music and it learns the guitar.

1968-1970 The Phalanster is a quasi vocational training which much will turn in the small Parisian crown. The name of the group refers to the theories utopians of Charles Fourier, philosopher and economist French (1772-1837). It is made up of Jean to the battery, Paul Ferrette with low, Christian and Alex Gibson.

It is during this period that Jean-Jacques Goldman asserts himself by his qualities, his will and his direction of the organization. The groups The Phalanster and Présence (Daniel Balavoine) were produced by the same producer. In 1970, The Phalanster is victorious springboard of the Golf Drouot. In 1969, Jean-Jacques Goldman obtains a Vat D with the College French-Villon (Paris, XIV°), and in 1970, it makes a Prépa HEC. Thus from 70 to 73, it is registered with the EDHEC (School of the High Commercial Studies) with Lille.

After 1970 After his departure in Lille, Jean-Pierre Buccolo replaces it in the group. Two of the former members of the group (the brothers Christian and Alex Gibson) will belong to the Gibson Brothers, disco music group which will be a large success in years 79/80. In the career of Jean-Jacques Goldman, there will be other groups: Taï Phong, its adventure with 3 with Carole Fredericks and Michael Jones, his collective achievements with the Round of the Dumbs.

Beginnings with Taï Phong

Jean-Jacques Goldman begins his career within the group Taï Phong in 1975. Success is already with go with the song Sister Jane , drawn from the first album of the group. In 1976, it is the real beginning.

Jean-Jacques is persuaded that one can sing in French without making song with text (it with what nobody risks himself too at the time) and it leaves a first 45T in solo which contains two titles: It is not serious dad and You told me . He leaves a second 45T in 1977.

In 1978, Jean-Jacques does not wish to take part in a round of Taï Phong, it is new which unloads to replace it: Michael Jones. He leaves on the other hand a third 45T in solo with Laëtitia.

In 1979, Taï Phong separates, “the group stopped because the groups, that dies” declares Jean-Jacques.

It will be enough to a sign

It will be enough to sign , and it is this sign which leaves on an album, which could have been called Démodé but which will remain without name (not commercial enough according to the recording company), in 1981. It is with this title that Jean-Jacques Goldman starts to be success.

After this success, its recording company, Epic, press it to leave another album, always without name with titles as When the music is good , Like you , At the end of my dreams or I will not speak to you about it .

When the music is good

After the tubes of the album, semi-officially renamed by some When the music is good , with its 200.000 sold specimens (another semi-official title exists: Minority ), Jean-Jacques continues and gives finally an official title to its third disc: Positive .

For his round, the author/type-setter/interprets calls upon a musician that he knows: Michael Jones. It is as from this moment that complicity between the two artists really starts whereas both knew each other since the years Taï Phong. Indeed, Goldman did not want to leave its work to leave in round with the group and it is Jones who replaced it after hearings.

I give you

In 1985, I only walk is the song which announces a new album: Not approved . This album contains a Duo French/English with Michael Jones: I give you . Duet which remains eight weeks at the top of the Top 50.

Between clear and gray gray dark

In 1987, Jean-Jacques leaves Between clear and gray gray dark with titles as It made a baby all alone , Since you leave , Là-bas (in Duo with Sirima). This double album contains in particular songs written since the middle of the years 1970. It is as for this album as the meeting with Carole Fredericks occurs: it lends its voice, then only of chorus-singer, on the first title of double vinyl (For what you are used (intro)).

Fredericks Goldman Jones

In 1990, a new phase in the career begins from the artist. It is surrounded indeed of his friends Carole Fredericks (singer who had already accompanied by many artists, of which Goldman itself, as a chorus-singer) and Michael Jones. They sign a first album with their names: Fredericks Goldman Jones , which becomes by extension the name of the trio.

In 1993, appears the album Rouge . The trio benefits from the fall of the iron curtain to go to record its album with Moscow.

The rounds of the trio Fredericks Goldman Jones alternate concerts with several thousands of people to the Zenith and only one small hundred in rooms of province. The live one which will follow this second round of the group will give rise to the album new morning with the Zenith which recalls environments quite different from the spectacles.

While passing

In 1997, Goldman returns to rough, acoustic melodies and blues… The album While passing is a resounding success with songs as One will go , Our hands , Good idea . With this album, Goldman confirms that it is quite able to make cry the electric guitars like singing the acoustic guitars and that there remains one of the best lyric writers of the history of the French song. This album is resolutely intimist. It treats primarily love. One finds some personal hints there (rare at Goldman) as in the walls or When you dances .

Songs for the feet

In 2001, Jean Jacques wants to be musician for the feet with successes like Ensemble and Tournent the violins . The acoustic album with the percussions more required than was While passing made place with very simple CD musicalement, but with different arrangements with each song, each new dance. Zouk, Gigue, Disco côtoient the traditional ballades “goldmaniennes”.

In 2002, it recalls its troop of musicians as regards his last round in date. Participations in humane works

Goldman for a long time put its talent at the profit of humane works. One notes in particular the participation in the collective for the children of Ethiopia (under the direction of Daniel Balavoine and Renaud), the Resto du coeur (for which it composes celebrates it song), Sidaction, Solidarité Asia, etc It is still today one of the important people of the annual actions of the Resto du coeur. Stop of its musical career

The Belgian daily newspaper the Last hour/the Sports claimed, in September 2005, that Jean-Jacques Goldman was on the point of stopping his career and that the advertisement would be made in a signed book of Fred Hidalgo (directing of the magazine Chorus ). The author contradicted the exit of a book and Jean-Jacques Goldman, through a denial published near the AFP, declared “I start to read articles in the press claiming that I would stop the song, they are false. ” Actually, it would be rather about a pause, i.e. Jean-Jacques Goldman will not leave album all the 4 or 5 years as he was accustomed to doing it. He is defined from now on, in particular at the time of the debate which accompanied the vote by the law DADVSI, like a “former singer”. Several articles (in particular on Internet) indicate that it would wish to take again its career when his/her last daughter has the age to see it singing. According to sources Internet, he would have said: “I want to make known my trade of singer to my daughter. ”
