Jean-Frederic Osterwald
Jean-Frederic Osterwald (or Ostervald ) (1663 - 1747) which directed the Church of Neuchâtel at the beginning of the 18th century. He is especially known by the bible which he made publish in 1744, but of which he was not therefore the translator, owing to the fact that he was based on the translation of Geneva and the revision of David Martin to carry out his. The bible of Ostervald was a reference and largely used during 150 years, until the end of 19th. An important aspect of the popularity of the bible of Ostervald were the comments and reflections which accompany all the chapters by its translation. In 1779 left an exceptional edition including engravings illustrating the biblical scenes, carried out by a young Suisse artist of Locle.
