James Gordon

James " Jim" Gordon is a character of comics belonging to the universe of cd. Comics. He is the police chief of the police services of the town of Gotham City.

History

During the golden age, James Gordon was a simple detective who saw of an evil eye the fact that Batman competed with the police force ( Detective Comics #27 ). However, Batman ends up persuading it that they would have to gain while helping each other. Thereafter, he became police chief of the city and officialized the collaboration of the police force of Gotham City with Batman and Robin, in their providing a statute of representatives of the Law. With its death, Bruce Wayne took its succession, having taken its retirement as Batman ( All-Star Comics #66 ).

After Crisis one infinity Earths, Frank Miller reconsidered the beginnings of the career of Gordon with Gotham at the same time as those of Batman: it was depicts like a young idealistic police officer whereas majority of the police officers of Gotham, whose Loeb Police chief, were corrupted and worked on behalf of the gangster chief Carmine Falcone ( Batman: Year One ). It was found then naturally allied in Batman. When all the network was dismantled, Gordon became police chief following Loeb. The principal difference with the pre-crisis version is that the Gordon police chief always kept secret his bonds with Batman.

While ensuring its responsibilities for police officer, it raised only his daughter, Barbara, who at the end of her adolescence decided to fight the crime as a Batgirl. A few years later, it was attacked at it by the Joker which drew to him above, leaving it paralyzed legs ( Batman: The Killing Joke ). Since, it continues to fight the crime under the identity of Oracle.

During forty imposed on Gotham City following the Earthquake which struck the city, Gordon approached Sarah Essen, a police colleague. She was assassinated some time afterwards by the Joker.

Since it posed its retirement ( Officier Down ), James Gordon left Gotham, which pointed out too many bad memories to him.

After Infinity Crisis, James Gordon is become again Police superintendent for the town of Gotham following stories of corruption inside the department of police force.

Allusions present in the titles The Dark Knight Returns (of Frank Miller, Klaus Janson, Lynn Varley) and Batman Year One ( Batman: Year a of Frank Miller and David Mazzucchelli), suggest that the Gordon police chief knows the secret identity of Batman.

Other media

In the series Batman ( The Batman ), the Gordon police chief arrives in the course of series. He takes the head of the police force, and contrary to the Rojas Chief who directed the police force before him, Gordon makes the difference between Batman and the criminals.
