Jacques Simonet

Jacques Simonet (Watermael-Boitsfort, December 21st 1963 - Anderlecht, June 14th 2007) is a Politician Belgian member of the reforming Mouvement. Known for its eloquence and its sometimes corrosive witty remarks, it was one of the man-key of the liberal party and seemed promised with a brilliant future at the time of its unexpected death at the 43 years age.

Biography

Jacques Simonet is the son of Henri Simonet (Minister of state and former burgomaster PS of Anderlecht between 1966 and 1984) and of Marie-Louise Angenent, graduate of the Business school Solvay and professor emeritus with the Vrije Universiteit Brussel. He was married and father of two children.

Bachelor of law of the Universit3e libre de Bruxelles, president of the Federation of the liberal students, it was lawyer with the Barreau of Brussels as from 1986. He exerted like Conscientious objector near the cabinet of Jean Gol, then in a cabinet of Brussels which he then gives up for the policy. Thus, as of 1987, at 24 years, it is elected Conseiller provincial and, the following year, leads the liberal list to Anderlecht at the time of the communal elections.

Minister-president of the area of Brussels-Capital of 1999 to 2000, it gives up the station in favor of François-Xavier de Donnea and consequently exerts full-time its post of burgomaster of Anderlecht. In February 2004, following the resignation of all its stations by Daniel Ducarme, it briefly becomes again Minister-President of the area and is chief candidate of MR. to the regional elections of Brussels of June 2004, elections during which its party loses vis-a-vis the Socialist party taken along by Charles Picqué.

He was burgomaster of Anderlecht of 2000 until his death on June 14th 2007.

Jacques Simonet is known for his clear-cut positions: during the electoral campaign of 1999, it is the target of certain Maghrebian young people of Brussels who reproach him his intransigent attitude with respect to the islamist mediums. The July 4th 2006 it gives order to the police force to expel forty foreigners in irregular situation of the Notre-Dame Church of the Immaculate Conception in Anderlecht and the abbot Jan Claes deposits felt sorry for against him for arbitrary arrests. For the communal elections of 2006, he declares in December 2005 with the journalist Jean-Claude Verset that its party will not make alliance with the Vlaams Belang to constitute a majority in its commune.

September 9th, 2006, he is hospitalized for a pulmonary Embolie. He takes again his activities quickly, and takes part for example in the fight of MR. for the conquest of the French-speaking place of first party while presenting himself to a “ place of combat ” at the time of the federal legislative elections of June 10th, 2007. He dies of a cardiorespiratory stop following a massive pulmonary embolism on June 14th, 2007, at the 43 years age. He is buried on June 16th with the cemetery of Vogelzang of Anderlecht.
