Jacques Carat
Jacques Carat (or Karaimsky) (Paris, 1919) is a French politician. He was inter alia Senator the Valley-of-Marne, and Maire of the town of Cachan during more forty-five years.
His/her large father had immigrant in Paris, coming from his native Latvia. Jacques Karaimsky francized his name as a Jacques Carat.
Former journalist, it specialized in the fields of the communication and the culture: Member of the Commission of the cultural affairs of the Senate (senator starting from 1968) and of the cinematographic Audit Board, member of Parliament with the board of directors of Radio-France and Senate, the council of audio-visual like with that of orientation of the Center Pompidou in Paris, chair regional Orchestre of Ile-de-France and Théâtre of the Paris region, administrator of the Cannes festival, named member of the Superior council of the patronage towards 1988.
He was senator-mayor of Cachan of May 6th 1953 at September 26th 1998.
He was one of the most former mayors of the the Valley-of-Marne and the most former general advisers of the the Seine (1959 - 1967), then the Valley-of-Marne to leave 1967.
Within the framework of his municipal activities, one can quote the complete restoration of the district of the town hall, started in 1980 and which is completed in 1998; the construction of a general sports stage; the installation of green areas (public garden of the Town hall, panoramic garden, green casting). Let us note that Jacques Carat was member of the Assemblée of the Mayors of France since 1966 (at the management committee of 1965 with 1974, then on the level of the Office of 1974 with 1986 and again at the management Committee since this last date).
For his other activities, one can consult the biographical note which it itself gave during the renewal of its mandate of general adviser in 1979.
