JPEG Spins Interchange Format
The JPEG Spins Interchange Format , shortened JFIF , is the Format of file more used for the images recorded with the Compression JPEG. In fact, the Extension of file .jpeg or .jpg indicates a file to format JFIF.
Compression JPEG is also used:
- in the formats of image:
- tiff
- Exif
- JNG
- in the formats of animation:
- MJPEG
- MNG (via JNG)
- in the formats of document:
- SWF
- etc
Use
Format JFIF is complementary to GIF and png for the publication of image on the World Wide Web. Although more interesting for heavy photographs or images, compression JPEG causes a loss of information (destructive algorithm of compression) being able to lead to a loss of visible quality if the user privileges a compression ratio raised, particularly when the image contains changes Nets of color or few colors (for example of the logos, captures of screen, diagrams,…). Format JFIF manages neither animations nor the transparency.
Currently a company holder of some patents running on dependant technologies brings a large wave of lawsuit against the software publishers who use compression JPEG.
