Ivrée

Ivrée ( Italian Ivrea in and Piedmontese Ivrèja in ) is a Italian city of the Province of Turin in the Piedmont.

Geography

Ivrée is located at the southern outlet of the Val of Aoste and constitutes the natural entrance point of Italy coming from France and the valley of Aoste.

Ivrée is bordered in the east by largest Moraine refrigerator of Europe which constitutes a peak of 25km length and approximately 400 meters of altitude to the top of the plain.

The modern city occupies two banks of the Doire Baltée.

The plain was occupied, during prehistory, of an immense lake formed by the cast iron of the glacier, which explains why Ivrée is surrounded many small lakes of mountain (lake Sirio, lake Saint-Michel).

The territory on which is of Ivrée calls the Canavais (Italian Canavese).

History

Ivrée was founded at the time Roman under the name of Eporedia. The city was the seat of a marquisat at the time franque.

They will have: Aubert d' Ivrée, king d' Italie; Konrad-Dado, marquis d' Ivrée; Wido d' Ivrée; Gisela d' Ivrée; Gerberge d' Ivrée and Rozala or Rozella or Suzanne of Tuscany.

in 900, died of Anschier I of Ivrée, wire of Amédée.

In 925, died of Adalbert I of Ivrée, wire of Anschier I and Volsia de Suse, widower of Gisele of the Friuli, and husband of Ermengarde of Tuscany.

936 - 966, Aubert, marquis d' Ivrée, king d' Italie, wire of Berenger II and Willa of Tuscany of Arles, husband of Gerberge de Chalon. they will have: Otte-Guillaume of Burgundy and Ardouin d' Ivrée.

December 15th, 950, Berenger II, marquis d' Ivrée, elected official king d' Italie, is crowned; he bequeaths the marquisat of Ivrée to his second wire, Konrad-Dado d' Ivrée.

June 25th, 965, died of Guy d' Ivrée, wire of Berenger II and Willa of Tuscany of Arles.

August 6th, 966, Berenger II of Ivrée, ex-marquis d' Ivrée, king d' Italie from December 15th, 950 to December 25th, 961, dies captive in the castle of Altenburg or Babenburg, in Bavaria.

Ivrée is one of the stages of the Via Francigena, way of driving pilgrimage to Rome. It is mentioned for this reason by Sigéric, into 990, with the mention XLV Everi (number of stage on the basis of Rome).

In 1018, died of Ardouin d' Ivrée, wire of Adalbert II and Gerberge de Chalon.

Ivrée was the prefecture of the French department of the Doire under Napoleon (decree of the 24 Fructidor, year X or September 11th, 1802).

Ivrée owes its development of post-war period with the localization of the seat of one of the greatest Italian multinational, Olivetti.

Festival

Ivrée is known for its high carnival colors begin with a procession in Napoleonean costume, and whose orange battles are the moment more awaited.

Carriages drawn by horses traverse the city. On their board, warriors of Tiran in armor and helmeted. The carriages stop on each place of the city where teams of combatants await them. And there during ten minutes the combatants to foot launch thousands of oranges on the warriors who counteract with as many oranges.
