Biography

One knows only few elements of the life of Ithier:
  • on March 1st 969, by an exchange with the count Boson, count de Provence, Ithier acquires, the castrum in ruin of Sanctum Amantum. It is the birth certificate of the village of Saint-Chamas.
  • in 972, it undertakes to make revive the monastery Saint-Césaire of Arles.
  • on July 19th 973, Teucinde obtains from the Ithier archbishop the concession of Saint-Hippolyte close to Arles, to rebuild it, restore it, and it to have, it and its nephew the bishop of Frejus Riculfe, until the end of their days.
  • between 976 and 978, at the time of the conflict between the bishop of Valence Aimon and certain Achard, a synod which has all the paces of a Assemblée of Peace excommunicates this last in an edict deposited solemnly on the high altar of the cathedral of Arles and intended for the Ithier archbishop.
  • of the members of the Jewish community of the city manages part of the inheritance of the archbishop.
  • it yields goods of Goudargues to the one of its protected, Thibert.
  • it strikes currency explicitly signed with its name.
