Israel Broadcasting Authority
The Authority of broadcasting of Israel or Israel Broadcasting Authority , often called IBA (in Hebrew: רָשׁוּתהשׁידוּר, Rashùt ha-Shidúr ) is the network of public radio-television of Israel.
It was born from the station radio Kol Israel , which made its first diffusion as an independent radio the May 14th 1948. The name of the organization managing Kol Israel was changed into Service of broadcasting in 1951. The law creating the Israel Broadcasting Authority was voted by the Knesset the June 6th 1965. The diffusion of television began the May 2nd 1968, television color appearing only the January 13rd 1981 (of specific diffusions of emissions color were done nevertheless earlier, most known being the Concours Eurovision of the song of 1979). The authority currently has at its head the minister without portfolio Eitan Kabel.
The IBA operates 3 chains of Télévision and several stations of radio. The television channels are practically without publicity but certain emissions “are often sponsored” by trade marks. On the other hand, publicity is completely authorized on the radios.
In 1990, the Israeli Parliament voted a law for the creation of one second Israeli authority of radiotelevision, whose function was to control commercial televisions and the private radios and this for the first time in Israel. Until the creation of this second authority and the broad diffusion permitted by the cable, in Israel (which produces also its personal programs for the local market, diffused by the cable with the beginnings of the year 1990, the IBA maintained a monopoly virtual on the diffusion and the production of radio-television in Israel. There were some exceptions, like the diffused emissions the morning and the afternoon by the chains of the IBA which were produced by the Israel Educational Television , the service of radio of the army and also the private radio " The voice of the Peace which diffused since the sea, apart from Israeli territorial water. The Israel Broadcasting Authority for its programs and its national diffusion is financed by a royalty which each owner of a television station must pay. Additional funds are received by sponsorship of private business enterprises and publicity with the radio.
The IBA was a member of long time of the European Union of radio-television.
