Isiro
Isiro , in the past Paulis (according to Albert Paulis), is an important locality of the north of the province Orientale (territory of Rungu) in Democratic republic of Congo, populated approximately 200.000 inhabitants. She is located climatically at the limit between the Equatorial forest and savanna. She draws in particular her resources from important plantations of coffee robusta. It is called besides the “Capital of green gold”.
The locality was in 1998 the third of the province to accommodate a university, after Kisangani and Bunia (district of Ituri), with the Université of Uele.
History
The locality was built as from 1934, to be fully completed in 1957. It is the place chief of the district of Haut-Uele, having detrôné Bambili and including the six territories of Dungu, Faradje, Niangara, Rungu, Wamba and Watsa. In 1964, the city is released from the influence of the Simbas rebels at the time of Black the Dragon operation carried out by the 1st regiment paracommando of the Belgian army.
Transport
The railroad allows the connections with Bumba then Kinshasa by the river Congo. The highway network also allows the commercial connections with the Uganda and the close Sudan. But since the Second war of Congo, the road towards Bumba is not practicable any more.The Isiro-Matari airport is of category 4 and connects the city to Kinshasa.
