Intravenous urography

The intravenous urography (UIV) is a radiological technique of examination which makes it possible to explore the morphology of the Rein and the renal function. It is indicated in the following cases:

  • obstruction of the ways excrétrices
  • assumption of a calculation
  • presence of tumor or ectopic metastasis
  • kidneys ectopic
  • urethra
  • hydronephrose.

Preparation of the subject:

  • patient with jeun in the 4 hours previous the examination

  • intravenous injection of a solution iodized (tri-iodized)
  • to practice a urography right after the injection

Two technique: a) injection continues tri-iodized solution b) injection with abdominal compression

Limits:

Against indication in the event of impaired renal function or hepatic;

To in no case, the technique cannot inform us about the character of reversibility or not of the lesions.
