International Wheelchair Basketball Federation
International Wheelchair Basketball Federation is a Association with nonlucrative goal which governs today the Basket-ball in wheel chair on a world level.
History of this federation
1973
The International federation of the plays of Stoke Mandeville (International Stoke Mandeville Ranges Federation - ISMGF) drew up the first section for the tennis shoe in Wheel chair. At this time, the ISMGF was the organization faîtier of the sports in wheel chair on a world level (see Handisport).
1989
ISMGF agrees to change the name of its section which becomes International Wheelchair Basketball Federation (IWBF). This is the first step towards a total independence.
1993
IWBF becomes the organization faîtier for the basketball in wheel chair on a world level, and acquires the responsibility for the development of this sport. In five years the number of members of the IWBF increased much and the federation created 4 geographical areas.
