Intensionnality
The intensionnality is a concept of logic and linguistics. She is opposed to the Extensionnalité.
A intensionnelle proposal is a proposal which does not satisfy certain rules of extensionnelle substitutability and existential generalization.
Thus, the proposal “Pierre believes that Corsica is in the south of France” is not equivalent to “Pierre believes that Corsica is in the south of France” if Pierre is unaware of that Corsica is Corsica.
In the same way, the proposal “I believe in a God” does not allow a inférer that God exists.
These proposals are thus intensionnelles proposals: their truth is not only function of their Dénotation (or object, or reference) but also in the way in which this one is apprehended or aimed, i.e. of their direction (with the direction frégéen).
It should be noted that one should not confuse intensionnality (with an S) and Intentionnalité (with one T) which is a philosophical concept!
