Innocent XII

Antonio Pignatelli , born with Spinazzola, close to Naples the March 13rd 1615, and died in Rome the September 27th 1700, Innocent pope under the name of XII (in Latin Innocentius XII , in Italian Innocenzo XII ) - Rastrum in carried in the Prophétie of Saint Malachie.

It enters to the Roman Curie at the twenty years age and becomes successively vice-legate with Urbin, inquisitor with Malta and governor of Perugia. Under Innocent X, it becomes Apostolic nuncio in Toscane, then in Poland under the pontificate of Alexandre VII. Created cardinal by Innocent XI, bishop of Faenza in 1682, then archbishop of Naples in 1687, it is elected Pape the July 15th 1691.

He imposes to the priests the port Soutane and the achievement of daily spiritual exercises.

Under its pontificate, Louis XIV of France gives up the “gallicanes proposals”, thus making it possible to the pope to recognize the bishops named by the king since 1673, date of the bursting of the Affaire of levels, to which its predecessors had refused the canonical nomination. He condemns the Quiétisme Fénelon and Mrs Guyon in 1699

He celebrates the sixteenth jubilee in 1700. -----
