History

Indy Pro Series was founded in 2002. This championship was called in the beginning Infiniti Pro Series, of the name of the motor mechanic Infiniti (the American branch of Nissan), exclusive supplier of the plate. The championship took later the name of Menard Infiniti Pro Series. Since 2006, and following the simultaneous withdrawals of Infiniti (Infiniti is not any more the sponsor-title of the championship, but continues has to provide the entirety of the plate) and Menard, the championship took name Indy Pro Series.

The vocation of the IPS, whose tests proceed all the same weekend as the tests of IndyCar except for one (Gp of the USA), and to be a reserve of talent for IndyCar (with the manner what GP2 is with the Formule 1 or the Formule Atlantic with the Champ Because). But in the facts, the IPS is never truly parvenu to develop and effectively fulfill its role of anteroom.
