Imperial court of Kyōto
The imperial court of Kyōto was the nominal government of the Japan starting from 794, date on which the Empereur Kammu moved the capital with Heian-kyō (literally “capital of peace”, today Kyōto), and until the era Meiji, in 1868, when the court was transferred to Tōkyō and was integrated into the government of the Empereur Meiji.
If the emperor reigned by name, truth capacity was during all the era Heian with the hands of the Régents Fujiwara, in spite of the attempt at certain emperors to escape this influence via the institution from the insei.
After the Guerre of Gempei, and the establishment of the Bakufu by Minamoto No Yoritomo in 1185, the capacity was with the hands of the Shogun S, that the foreign governments, and in particular Chinese, often took for emperors of Japan.
