Idrissa Diop

Idrissa Diop is a Percussionniste of Jazz Senegal board.

Biography

Born with Malika (Area of Dakar), Idrissa Diop begins its professional path at the 16 years age in the " Rio Groupe". Its ethnic origins (sérère, wolof and peulh) enrich it by various musical traditions.

Of 1976 with 1980, it plays in the famous " group; The Sahel de Dakar" it is one of the founding members. This group is one of the first to modernize the music sénégalaise.

In 1982, it makes a turn of Europe before taking part in the recording of the album Gorgui , then share with the the United States with Chekh Tidiane Tall to record an album, Guedj .

In 1983, it makes, with the " group; Tabala" , a great round in Senegal.

Returned to France in 1984, it accompanies Ray Léma, the Zairean, at the time of a European round. The same year, it takes part in the Australian round of Chriss Hinze. He will play then like Percussionniste in the band " Jericho" , for the release of Fela Anikulapo Kuti, which occurs in front of 350.000 people, Harmony places, at the time of a concert organized by S.O.S Racism in June 1985.

In September 1985, it founds its own " group; Gaîendés" , which means " Lions" , emblem of its country. He sings in wplof, national language of Senegal. The topics which it approaches deal with major social problems of Africa: the Apartheid, immigration, hunger…

In December 1985 leaves to Celluloïd its first album entitled Misaal which means " Le Monde d' Aujourd'hui".

It takes part then in the first two albums of the group Sixun: Sleepless night and Pygmies.
