IEEE 802.1X
IEEE 802.1X is a standard of the IEEE for the access control to the network based on the ports; it is part of the group of protocols IEEE 802 (802.1).
This standard provides a Authentification to the equipment connected to a port Ethernet. It is also used for some access points Wifi, and is based on EAP (RFC 2284). RFC 2284 became obsolete on arrival of RFC 3748.
802.1X is a functionality available on some switches network.
